How to protect your online privacy

Practical steps that reduce what websites and trackers learn about you.

1. Use a modern browser with tracker blocking. Most mainstream browsers now block third-party cookies and fingerprinting by default or with a simple setting.

2. Consider a privacy-focused search engine and a reputable VPN for public Wi-Fi — but understand the VPN’s own logging policy first.

3. Keep software updated. Most real-world privacy breaches come from unpatched browsers, plugins or operating systems.

4. Use unique, strong passwords with a password manager, and enable two-factor authentication.

5. Check your exposure with our Privacy Center, and review the DNS, IPv6 and WebRTC leak guides if you use a VPN.
