Know Your Internet provides educational and diagnostic tools. The information produced has important limitations you should understand before relying on it.

Geolocation is approximate

IP geolocation never identifies an exact physical location. It is typically accurate to the city level at best, and can be wrong at any granularity. Do not use it for decisions that require a precise location.

Detection is heuristic

  • VPN, proxy and hosting detection is based on network classification and reputation signals. It is never 100% accurate.
  • Blacklist results come from third-party public lists that may be outdated, incomplete or contain false positives.
  • “No blacklist listing” does not prove a target is safe or reputable.

Network checks

Port checks, header fetches and certificate checks are point-in-time observations. A port being open does not mean a service is vulnerable, and a closed port does not mean a service is secure.
